How Reina Came into this World

Reina Suvi Guinn is the newest addition to our family. She was born on January 8th, 2009 at 6:07 pm weighting 9 lb. 1 oz. Yes, a VERY big girl! I knew when I would be going into labor since I was to be induced on Thursday, January 8th. The night before (Wednesday) I was at the gym doing a "light" workout on the elliptical. An older gentlemen was impressed to see me there so late in my pregnancy...I let him know I was going to have a baby tomorrow! Following my shower that Wednesday evening after the gym, my husband Paul and I went to clean an office building that we take care of twice a week (once during the weekend and on Wednesday night...which it was the day before I was going to have a baby). That night I of course did not sleep much with thoughts of: "This is the last night it is just Paul and me." "Next time I sleep in this bed there is going to be a baby sleeping between us." "Uh oh, I have been anticipating this for 9 months and now it is here and I am not ready." "Yeah, I am ready to be a mommy, but oh the pain tomorrow...what if I can't take it?" "Is it possible that I am weaker than other women and will pass out?" "That's impossible, you went to the gym and cleaned the night before you delivered...hmmmm, maybe not the best idea!" "Woohoo! It's finally here!" "What's she going to look like?" Okay, so you get the point! Fear; excitement; all tangled into my thoughts.

Vacation Time!
One of our main trips was to the North Shore where BYU-Hawaii and the temple are located. During our day trip there we visited the campus and visitor's center at the temple, and probably the highlight of the trip was to the Polynesian Cultural Center (which is owned and run by the Church). This was AMAZING! It's not only a luau with a show but a full day event. You start out with a canoe show featuring dances from all the polynesian islands. Then you continue your tour of the islands with ceremonies and cultural activities from each particular island. This leads you up to the luau where you get to eat the traditional smoked pig feast with entertainment while you eat. I expected the evening to end after that but it continues with an hour and a half full on show featuring music and dancing from the islands (which is put on in an outdoor arena). We didn't get home until 11pm or so. Spendy but a great memory!
We did a ton of swimming- how can you not when the water is like bath water...except for the sand. We literally went to a beach every day! We realized that the North shore had the best waves. I even wore a bikini while pregnant...I wanted the least amount of tan lines as possible. I got a few stares but most people couldn't believe I was actually playing in the water.
We did a little snorkling at Hanauma Bay where it's known for lots of underwater life...we snapped a few shots of different sea life. Paul happened to see an eel, which he said looked like it was going to take a bite out of him. I was glad I didn't see one!
Of course we did some shopping. And on our last day there we tried to go for a hike which started out great...it reminded us of the island on LOST (only our FAVORITE show) but we only got about 300 ft. into the hike due to the thickest muck and swarms of mosquitos!
It was great to get away from the rain and have sun and beach for a week!

WSCC Graduation
After the ceremony at the Oregon Convention Center we went out for a steak dinner at Sayler's Old Country Kitchen. When we pulled up to the restaurant we weren't very excited to see a 30 year old sign with a faded picture of a steak on it. Luckily the steaks turned out to be delicioso! Two surprises were in store; one for Paul and one for everybody else. Paul was surprised to get a new mountain bike. (And it was even the right color!) The second surprise was the big one...Paul announced that I am pregnant! Family, food and fertility make a great day!
